This area was thought to be the location of Cástulo’s forum – an empty space to serve as the civic center, surrounded by public buildings – when Forvm MMX/Siglo XXI en Cástulo began work here in 2011. Instead, it was the site of the spectacular discovery of a building with a number of rooms paved with intact mosaics, including the Mosaico de los Amores. This building dates to the first century CE. To the north lies another building which we now interpret as a baptistery (fourth-fifth centuries CE). It was here that the glass paten depicting Christ in majesty was discovered in 2013.
